When: A French Press is used to make hot coffee when a stronger, bolder coffee is desired. The French Press works more along the line of making tea, rather than brewing coffee, as the coffee is "steeped" in hot water, rather than brewed through a filter.
Where: Since French Presses are traditionally not electric, they can be used just about anywhere where boiled water is available.
How: To use a French Press, follow these instructions:
Grind coffee beans to a course, even consistency. (roughly 1 rounded tablespoon per 4 oz cup)
Add coffee to the bottom of the press.
Pour boiling water slowly and steadily over coffee.
Stir the coffee and woter so that all of the coffee is evenly mixed.
Place the filter assembly on the pot and wait approximately 3-4 minutes.(The longer it steeps, the stonger the coffee will be.)
Hold the handle of the plunger firmly and push straight down, slowly. (Be sure to push the plunger straight down, or the coffee grinds will mix with your coffee)
Carefully pour the coffee into cups while holding the lid assembly in place to avoid spills.
